Imagine yourself in darkness, surrounded by strangers and a kaleidoscope of aromas permeating the air. Everyone is dead silent. There is a palpable energy in the room and it’s growing stronger as the seconds build. Where are we?

If you imagined a movie theater, you would be correct. There are these few moments after the trailers have ended and the exit rows have been identified, where there is silence in the dark. Anniversaries. Don’t you just love’em!  They are exciting and celebrated for just about everything. In the romance category, couples tend to celebrate every momentous occasion, at least in the beginning. From where they first met, to the first kiss and then come the monthly and yearly anniversaries.

If the happy couple chooses to get married, then the more complicated anniversaries begin. First there’s the engagement and then the wedding anniversaries that change their name every year, from the 1st being Paper to the 60^th being Diamond.  Then come the first apartments together and purchases of homes, to the yearly trips to celebrate the anniversaries, or maybe they are the anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 4 yrs since the last Summer Olympic Games opened in Beijing, China on 08/08/08. This year, nearly 5100 miles to the west, London, England is set to play host to the Games of the XXX Olympiad, which will open on July 27^th.

From the Opening Ceremonies on July 27th to the Closing Ceremonies on August 12th all eyes will be on London for the following 17 days. The world’s best athletes will come together and compete for Gold in 26 sports, which include 39 disciplines. While sadly baseball and softball have been dropped from the games, Women’s Boxing has finally made its way into the games and was the only new sport to be added.

From around the world, 154 nations have currently qualified at least one athlete to compete in the games. Many of these athletes have worked their entire lives to compete on this famous stage. Some of them overcoming huge physical and financial barriers to qualify and follow their dreams.  For a majority of them, the reach for gold will fall short, but even so, these athletes will take away with them something very special. They have earned the right to call themselves an Olympian. Which is one of the greatest honors in competitive sports. Something most of us can only dream of achieving.

It would be a dream for me to make it to London as a spectator. I would take my I love London hoodie with me, and wear it with pride inside the indoor stadiums, and have as many Olympians as I could find, sign it. I know what you’re thinking, that’s crazy, like I’d be able to find an Olympian to sign my hoodie. But realistically I probably would be able to find them.

When I was at the 2004 Olympics in Greece, they were everywhere. The Russian Women’s Gymnastics team walked right in front of me and a Platform Diver from Australia was on the same tour of Athens as I was, and I even had drinks with a Peruvian rower at the Olympic Village.  So I know I might cross paths with some Olympians, but whether they would actually sign my hoodie is another thing entirely. I can dream too, ya know.

Have you ever known anyone who had a really strange or interesting name? Did it make you want to get to know them or find out how they ended up with the name in the first place? Were they born with it or did they change it and why?

A name is more than what we call ourselves. It’s our identity and it can also shape the person we become. Growing up with the name Candy Apple, Tupac, or Heaven will certainly bring you more attention, good or bad, than having something a bit more ordinary. Not to say that having a normal name means your life will be any less or more, it just means that your name, initially, won’t be what garners you the attention.

Having a more traditional name doesn’t mean that it will be an easy name to live with. Let’s take the name Suzanne. Doesn’t seem overly complicated, but for some reason it’s a very difficult name for some people to get right. Maybe it’s because they don’t really listen or perhaps Susan, Susi or Susanna is somehow easier to remember. It is similar, so why not use it right? Maybe, but getting someone’s name right and remembering it, shows a level of respect and will be appreciated.

Green is in the air. Literally. Spring has come a few weeks early in my neighborhood. The trees and flowers are already blooming, fragrant scents fill the air and the sun is shining longer. It’s truly a beautiful site.

March is a green month indeed. St. Patrick’s day is right around the corner, which means parades, Irish folk music, green beer, and happy people. It’s not required that you were born with fire red locks, own an Irish Setter or enjoy drinking Guinness in order to partake in the festivities, but it doesn’t hurt either.

I found out some years ago, that part of my family does indeed hail from the Land of Green. Not knowing this before never stopped me from celebrating on St. Paddy’s day.  I mean it’s pretty hard to find fault with a holiday that celebrates singing and dancing and drinking. Knowing that I have Irish heritage just makes the day a little bit sweeter.

So on March 17^th, remember to wear something green, or you might get pinched or punched. It’s so not the day to wear your favorite Leonberger Hoodie, save that for Oktoberfest! Have fun, be safe, and have a Happy St. Paddy’s Day!!

Vodka connecting people is as old as Russia itself. You may prefer yours in an apple martini or mixed with orange juice, but the Russians drink there’s straight up. It’s not only consumed at happy hour or in bars, they drink it at all hours of the day. It’s the national beverage of choice. It not only warms the body, but it warms the soul. Just like the Russians find mixing Vodka with anything to be sacrilegious, the French would surely stick up their nose at a wine cooler. The French do, however, come together over a nice glass or bottle of wine. They enjoy blended as well as varietal wines. The varietal is a wine coming from a single grape, whereas the blended is made up of several different types. The Rhone region of France is known for having both types.

While the French might come together over a glass of wine, the British come together in a Pub over a pint of beer or cider. The pubs are family friendly places, where everyone enjoys one another’s company. Stouts, Lagers, Bitters, Dry Ciders are just a few of the beverages you can acquire in a pub

What brings you together with your friends?  Maybe you love a glass of Pinot or sipping on nice Tequila? Perhaps you prefer coffee or tea or lemonade instead. Most of us have a geek hiding in us somewhere. Every year there is a large comic book convention held in San Diego, CA. It has a massive cult like following. Thousands of people transcend onto the city for a weekend, that’s guaranteed to be a memorable one. It’s such a hot convention that it sells out months in advance.

People come from all over the world to rub shoulders with some of the most creative minds in the industry. They can participate in workshops, listen to guest speakers from the film, TV, book, and illustration industries, and even get signed autographs and pictures taken with some of their idols.

It can be an eye opening experience as well. Many attendees come dressed in full costumes. You might see space aliens, female vampires sporting fangs in short black skirts wearing sexy hoodies, realistic robots, decaying zombies, and other strange and beautiful looking creatures.

So whether you’re a nerdy guy dressed up in full alien garb flanked by drop dead gorgeous women or you’re a hot geeky chic laying low…wearing jeans and a sweatshirt,

it’s pretty safe to assume that you’ll be back again next year.

One size fits all.  What does that really mean anyway? That it’s more than likely that this piece of clothing will fit you? So let’s say that you’re actually able to fit inside this t-shirt or hoodie or whatever…does it look good?  Is that “one size fits all” hoodie for women really gonna work?

Realistically it’s either too long or too big or not large enough. The sleeves are too short, the neck is too big, there’s really nothing about it that actually fits. So why do we subject ourselves to the “one size fits all” piece of clothing?
